At the end of your session your tattoo will be cleaned and bandaged by the artist.
Remove the original bandage 2-4 hours after the tattoo, OR the following day (it can be left on for up to 24 hours, leaving it overnight is often recommended).
Wash the entire area with soap and warm water. An unscented anti-bacterial soap is preferred, like liquid Dial Gold soap.
Air-dry or gently pat with a clean towel
Optional: You may apply a VERY SMALL amount of ointment, just enough to create a thin layer that will absorb into the skin. Aquaphor or A+D ointment is recommended.
Wash your tattoo twice a day, morning and evening. You may do so as well with the ointment only if you feel your skin/tattoo needs it. After 3 days you can switch to a light unscented lotion such as Lubriderm or Cetaphil while continuing this routine.
Do not re-bandage
Do NOT pick or peel. If any scabbing or peeling of the skin occurs, allow it to fall off naturally.
Continue moisturizing for up to one week or more as needed. But remember, less is more.
Your tattoo should be healed within one to two weeks. At this point it is “closed” and less susceptible to bacteria and infection. It may take some additional weeks to months to feel fully settled into the skin, losing the initial shiny layer
Avoid strenuous activity, working out, etc for the first 5-7 days following your tattoo to allow your body to heal. Exposure to excessive sweat, heat, and bacteria through gym equipment can greatly increase the chance of poor healing and infection.
Do not submerge your new tattoo in water (baths or swimming) for AT LEAST 2 weeks following your session.
Avoid direct sun exposure to the tattooed area during the healing process. Use light, loose, cotton clothing to protect the area.
Avoid exposure of your new tattoo to animals and household pets. If contact is made, please wash with soap and warm water as soon as possible.
Once your tattoo is fully healed, it is recommended during prolonged time under the sun and outdoors to use a mineral sunscreen and avoid direct exposure for best results and longevity.
SECOND SKIN BANDAGES are sometimes provided at the session as available, but if it is your preferred method of aftercare, it is highly encouraged that you bring your own supply for Dean to apply after your tattoo appointment. The brand Dean personally recommends is Recovery Derm Shield, this can be found in various sizes on Amazon.
At the end of your session your tattoo will be cleaned and bandaged by the artist using second skin.
It is recommended to leave the second skin on for 5-6 days.
The bandage may pool with fluid and even leak a small amount. This is normal. Do not try to force the liquid out or puncture the bandage in any place so it can drain, this will compromise the sterility and effictiveness of healing process.
If leaking occurs, you may clean any excess fluid gently with a clean paper towel.
It is normal for a second skin bandage to peel up around the edges. If however, any section of the tattoo becomes exposed, it is recommended that you remove the bandage entirely. If this occurs, feel free to contact Dean with any questions.
After 5-6 days has elapsed, gently remove the bandage under warm running water and wash the tattoo with soap, do not rip it off dry.
Do not pick or peel. If any scabbing or peeling of the skin occurs, allow it to fall off naturally.
Moisturize using a plain, unscented lotion for up to one week or more as needed. But remember, less is more.
